I got a forwarded email today from a friend back in the Philippines and I find the email so interesting that I would like to post it here. This is about “Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger”.

There is a beautiful and convincing explanation given by the Chinese…..

Thumb represents your Parents
Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings
Middle finger represents your-Self
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner
& the Last (Little) finger represents your children

Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together – back to back
Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb – tip to tip
(As shown in the figure below):

Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents)…, they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.

Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)…., they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.
Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)…., they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.
Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT….., because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives – through thick and thin!!

This was the term hubby told me when I wash the dishes in our dishwasher. I normally do dishes manually and very rarely I use our dishwasher. The reason I don’t use our dishwasher much is that dishwashing to me is not that a big deal and I am used to do it manually since I grew up in the Philippines washing the dishes with hands because in the first place we do not have dishwasher which most Filipinoes don’t. I told hubby before that if I can just do the dishes manually it would help cut some energy bills. But earlier, I decided to use the dishwasher since I got lazy washing them up when I saw those dishes piled up in the sink. Then hubby started asking if the dishwasher was on and I said yes, I’m using it then he said, “now you finally use the dishwasher”. “You are now americanized”. It was funny because while he was talking to me he was trying to copy my Filipino accent when I talk English.

I couldn’t believe that google gave me a PR1 for this blog. I always wonder how each website is rated by google because I know there are other websites or blogs that I feel deserved to get a PR. A lot of bloggers are still confused about this Page Ranking stuff. Well, I don’t know if my blog deserves this PR but thanks anyways to google. I found out awhile ago that there is another blog that has the same title as mine “Straight from the Heart”. I didn’t know this when I created my blog, I only found out after a couple of months searching from google. So, I decided to change my blog title into “The Love and Life of a fil-Am Couple” just to have originality. Fil-Am Relationship

The internet is a very powerful tool to meet people around the globe. Who would have thought that I would meet my ever loving husband online? Yet, it happened and I would say that it worked best to us. I have a wonderful marriage. My hubby once asked himself if he would ever marry again and would experience a happy and a normal marriage after ending an 18 yrs of unhappy and a disastrous married life. He was scared to get married again because he had such a bad experience with his previous marriage and was afraid if it would happen again. But then, he was still hopeful that someday he would re marry and have a successful marriage. I am glad that his past experience didn’t stop him to start looking and searching to find someone through a dating website. At that time, I was also interested in seeking for a serious relationship that would end in marriage. I have had a couple of correspondence and had build relationships with them one at a time of course and I thought was going to succeed and end up in marriage but it never did. Until I met hubby in one of the free dating websites for which both of us were members. He sent me message first and and introduced himself and I responded back to his message and the rest was history. We met online in Dec 2006, from then on we communicated everyday through emails and chatted twice a day for a couple of hours. Then he decided to come to the Philippines to visit and meet me for the very first time in February 15, 2007. He proposed to marry me then he met my parents, went back to US and started to file fiancee visa petition so he could take me to the US and marry me. Everything went smoothly from the visa processing until my visa interview which he came back again to be with me during my visa interview in US Embassy, Manila. I passed the interview and got my visa and we flew together to Colorado, USA. We got married in Florida and now I am almost 2 years here in the US with my husband. We are happily married and have a loving relationship. We couldn’t afford to be without each other. We are both dependent of each other, we love being together all the time which make our love and relationships grow stronger each passing day.

It’s been awhile since I posted on this blog. I have been busy with my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Class since August 11. Things are doing pretty well with regards to my training. I decided to take the opportunity to atted the said training since the Mesa County Workforcenter offered this free training for those who want to avail. I’m glad I did because my whole training is paid for by the said agency including my uniforms. The CNA Training is an 8 week class, 4 days a week, Mondays through Thursday at 5-9 pm. I’m hoping that I could pass the board exam in October so I could start looking for jobs as a CNA. It will surely help a lot in our finances. Hubby is very excited about me becoming a CNA and he encouraged me to pursue a profession in the healthcare. Hopefully, I could continue and get into the nursing program to become an RN or get into the BSN program or maybe become an Echocardiographer or Echo Tech ( Ultrasound of the Heart) just like hubby. These are just plans that hubby and I are considering in the future.

What is LOVE????

Scientific Answers
Researchers (Hatfield & Rapson, 1995) have broken up love into two main types:

Passionate love which involves continuously thinking about the loved one and also involves warm sexual feelings and powerful emotional reactions.

Companionate love is having trusting and tender feelings for someone who is close to you.
Now one of the best known theories of love (which means an educated guess that isn’t proven fact) is Robert Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love.

The three components of the Triangular Theory of Love are:

Passion, the feeling physically aroused and attracted to someone.
Passion is what makes you feel “in love” and is the feeling most associated with love. It also rises quickly and strongly influences and biases your judgment.

Intimacy, the feeling close and connected to someone (developed through sharing and very good communications over time).
Intimacy is what makes you want to share and offer emotional and material support to each other.

Commitment, pledging to your self and each other to strengthen the feelings of love and to actively maintain the relationship.
Commitment is what makes you want to be serious, have a serious relationship and promise to be there for the other person if things get tough.

Now Sternberg also uses his Triangular Theory of Love to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about love:

Is there love at first sight?
This is when we are overwhelmed by passion, without any intimacy or commitment (both of which take time). Sternberg calls this infatuated love, Because there is not intimacy or commitment, infatuated love is fated to fade away.

Why do some people get married after being in love for a very short time?
This is a combination of passion and commitment, but without any intimacy. Sternberg calls this Hollywood love. This is where two people make a commitment to each other based on their passion. Unless intimacy develops over time, this relationship most likely will end.

Can their be love without sex?
Ah yes, companionate love, where intimacy and commitment are present without any sexual passion.

Why doesn’t romantic love last?
Passion and intimacy without commitment is Romantic love. When the passion fades, and the intimacy wanes, the relationship ends.

Infatuation vs. Love

Infatuation is instant desire – one set of glands calling to another.

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows, one day at a time.
Infatuation is marked by a feeling of insecurity. You are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might spoil the dream. Love is the quiet understanding and mature acceptance of imperfection. It is real. It gives you strength and grows beyond you – to bolster your beloved. You are warmed by their presence, even when they are away. Miles do not separate you. You have so many wonderful little films in your head that you keep replaying. But near or far, you know they are yours, and you can wait.

Infatuation says, “We must get married right away. I can’t risk losing them.”
Love says, “Be patient. Don’t panic. Plan your future with confidence.”
Infatuation has an element of sexual excitement. Whenever you are together, you hope it will end in intimacy.

Love is not based on sex. It is the maturation of friendship, which makes sex so much sweeter. You must be friends before you can be lovers.
Infatuation lacks confidence. When they’re away, you wonder if they’re cheating. Sometimes, you check.

Love means trust. You are calm, secure and unthreatened. They feel your trust, and it makes them even more trustworthy.

Infatuation might lead you to do things you will regret, but love never steers you in the wrong direction.

Love is an upper. It makes you feel whole. It completes the circle. It fills the empty space in your heart.
Love is elevating. It lifts you up. It makes you look up. It makes you think up. It makes you a better person than you were before. If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great many things you don’t have. If there is no love in your life, whatever else there is has a lot less meaning.

The secret of our being is not only to live but to have something to live for.

Family Dinner…

We just got back home from a family dinner at Texas Roadhouse it’s our way of celebrating 4th of July. It was a great dinner because we have hubby’s children with us during this week. We picked them up at 5 pm every other Friday from their mother’s since they spend time with us every other week. On our way back home, we saw the fireworks display as we drove along the road then hubby stopped by a parking lot so we could watched it good.
